ABOUT

Whether the subject breathes or not, I consider the photograph I make of it a portrait. I pray the image I make unveils something, yet not everything or all at once, about the subject. My ultimate ambition is to create an image that reveals at least a hint of the subject’s spiritual make-up, guarded secrets, pathology, what it once was, or anything that will interrupt the viewer from the obvious.
Consistent throughout my work is a sense of nostalgia, defined composition, texture illuminated by available light, and reality. I unconsciously gravitate towards these elements, and even if I intentionally avoid them in the quest to expand my vision they still, somehow, find their way into my work.
Finally, my photographs, in many ways, are like me: innately shy and hesitant to make an immediate impression. Conversely, I am not attached to what is grand, loud, and begging to be seen. However, I do admire beauty, but not that that is typical. I am drawn to beauty that must be unraveled before it can be truly appreciated. And whom I wish and suspect will respect and value my work are those with the spirit of inquiry to inspect beyond their initial judgment.
